Ambient and experimental warming effects on an alpine bryophyte community

چکیده

Alpine and Arctic bryophytes have been found to respond negatively climate change, but as they are often analysed one functional group, there is limited knowledge on species-specific responses. In this study, we examine how nearly two decades of experimental warming by open-top chambers ambient affected the bryophyte community structure in an alpine Dryas octopetala L. heath Finse, southwest Norway. contrast what expected, that abundance, species richness, evenness increased over time control plots, indicating a positive response warming. However, increase abundance cover was suppressed experimentally warmed plots compared with plots. Bryophyte composition changed similar direction both Acrocarpous mosses were not stronger than pleurocarpous mosses, individual taxa showed contrasting Our study highlights importance studying responses environmental well combining long-term observations

Experimental warming increases herbivory by leaf‐chewing insects in an alpine plant community

Climate warming is predicted to affect species and trophic interactions worldwide, and alpine ecosystems are expected to be especially sensitive to changes. In this study, we used two ongoing climate warming (open-top chambers) experiments at Finse, southern Norway, to examine whether warming had an effect on herbivory by leaf-chewing insects in an alpine Dryas heath community. We recorded feed...

Geographic differences in effects of experimental warming on ant species diversity and community composition

Ecological communities are being reshaped by climatic change. Losses and gains of species will alter community composition and diversity but these effects are likely to vary geographically and may be hard to predict from uncontrolled ‘‘natural experiments’’. In this study, we used open-top warming chambers to simulate a range of warming scenarios for ground-nesting ant communities at a northern...

Warming and Eutrophication Effects on Phytoplankton Community of Two Tropical Systems with Different Trophic States—An Experimental Approach

Global warming, as well as europhication are predicted to promote cyanobacterial blooms, but how tropical phytoplankton communities from different trophic state systems respond to temperature variation is less known. To further explore the effect of temperature changes and nutrient addition on phytoplankton communities and to get insight in possible resistance to these effects, we tested the hy...

Responses of Soil Microbial Communities to Experimental Warming in Alpine Grasslands on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

Global surface temperature is predicted to increase by at least 1.5°C by the end of this century. However, the response of soil microbial communities to global warming is still poorly understood, especially in high-elevation grasslands. We therefore conducted an experiment on three types of alpine grasslands on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau to study the effect of experimental warming on abundance a...

Effects of Warming on CO2 Fluxes in an Alpine Meadow Ecosystem on the Central Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau

To analyze CO2 fluxes under conditions of climate change in an alpine meadow on the central Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, we simulated the effect of warming using open top chambers (OTCs) from 2012 to 2014. The OTCs increased soil temperature by 1.62°C (P < 0.05), but decreased soil moisture (1.38%, P < 0.05) during the experiments. The response of ecosystem CO2 fluxes to warming was variable, and d...
